Beauty & Millennials

Lifestyle

The fact that Millennials are the most digital-savvy generation is an undeniable one. The purpose of social media has evolved from being a tool for communication to being a vessel for self-expression and more and more self-promotion in recent years. When millennials talk, the industry listens and whether we are talking about fashion or beauty, companies have never had a stronger connection with their buyers and consumers than now – all thanks to platforms such as Instagram and beauty blogs. Millennials do not only use these platforms to see what new products different companies have to offer, but also to seek guidance when it comes to products which are worth their money. They turn to beauty bloggers in search of the next ‘it’ thing to own, and new makeup and skincare techniques and innovations to try. As most beauty bloggers are themselves members of the millennial generation, they are perceived as more trustworthy than fashion magazines and beauty consultants in specialized stores.

A recent poll has found that the number of people who would rather reach for their smartphones for a quick check on a product’s reputation or price comparison, rather than ask the salesperson, has reached 58 percent. They also do not shy away from testing the merchandize, and more and more cosmetics companies are catering to those demands. Albeit a suspicious generation, once they have done their research on the quality of the products, millennials do not hold back when it comes to flaunting their disposable income on high-end and products that have received highly favorable reviews by their blogger and vlogger peers.

Finally, what millennials crave the most is a sense of individuality; they seek ways to express and celebrate their uniqueness and are therefore a generation that will not settle for a small ‘one-fits-all’ selection – they demand variety, and judging by the extensive offers seen in shops and online stores, it is evident how important this group of people is to the beauty industry.

Having said all this, it is safe to say that millennials do not only come out to play, but rather own the beauty playground, so let us see which companies are becoming the favorites of this generation.

A brand with a long history

As previously said, this generation does not settle for anything less that top quality and chooses brands that have a long and successful history. That is why, particularly when skincare is at stake, millennials put their trust in the hands of verified Thalgo products.

This company has been on the market for the past fifty years, and what makes it so appealing is its line of innovative marine spa products. Relying on the power of the sea, this company has created products that are free of animal derivatives, parabens, mineral oil, GMO, and propylene glycol, which makes it all the more appealing to younger consumers, as they have a higher sense of awareness when it comes to environmental issues, on top of the fact that more and more millennials are turning to more natural products with fewer chemicals. Some of the top products by this brand are made from natural and plant extracts.

Clean and green beauty

Another favorite among the younger demographic is Credo Beauty. In the words of InStyle, “we love a good beauty buy from Credo, because it’s basically the green beauty equivalent of Sephora.” The reason people love this brand, aside from the fact that their products are natural and organic, is simply because they are amazing and deliver on their promises.

One of the highest selling and top-reviewed products from their selection is the Beuti Skin Elixir, a seed oil based product that has earned cult status for its powerful antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects. If the rumor-mill is to be trusted, even a certain Duchess of Cambridge is fond of it.

Speaking of natural

Finally, when it comes to makeup, there is an enviable number of new and organic brands millennials are increasingly paying attention to. One of them is Au Naturale. First and foremost – all their products are organic, vegan, cruelty-free, gluten-free and ethically sourced. The second reason why this brand has found its place in the hearts and makeup cases of members of the younger generation is the quality of the products, the pigmentation of the eye shadows and the bold colors of their lipstick selection.

An additional incentive – their now famous Recycling Rewards Program allows you to send back components for reuse and earn credit while you are at it.
