Healthy Food Essentials

Info

As many of you all know, college is the time that many kids my age gain that dreaded “freshman 15”. Weirdly enough, I actually lost over 15 pounds when I started college. I think most of it had to do with me being overly cautious about NOT wanting to gain weight and trying to start implementing healthier eating, more exercise, and an overall healthier lifestyle. Now that I am in my junior year of college, I have perfected my “healthy eating” lifestyle that has helped me to avoid freshman 15! All of these foods are universal so there are so many ways to make new meals out of them.

Here are my top 10, nutrient dense, food essentials that help me to stay full longer:

  1. Avocados
  2. Almonds/Pistachios
  3. Cashew Milk (or milk of your choice)
  4. Carrots/Broccoli/Celery (or any fresh vegetable)
  5. Fresh fruit
  6. Spinach (or lettuce of your choice)
  7. Chicken and/or Turkey (think lean meat)
  8. Whole wheat pasta
  9. Oats
  10. Greek Yogurt
